Onwards and Upwards

We haven't reached the end of January just yet, so I think it's still ok to say "Welcome to 2017" ? I am looking forward to a much better year ahead than the last...it wasn't that I had an annus horribilis - there was some good, mixed with the bad but it certainly was a tough one. There were times I felt very overwhelmed and just couldn't keep up with everything I wanted... crafting was still my salvation but my blogging fell to the wayside and I missed it! I am hoping this year to get back on track and while I can't promise a new post every week, I can promise a lot more regularity!

I have spent most of my hot summer days in my happy room creating with all the gorgeous new papers, stamps and embellishments from Close To My Heart's new Seasonal Expressions Idea Book Catalogue.

It is jammed packed with lots of pretty and cute yumminess... and I have already created some fun cards for my workshop events and for those of you who love to work with pre-cut scrapbook kits I have a new range available now - simply click here to find out more.

Here is a little preview -

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge - #153

Once again I am joining the sketch fun over at the Atlantic Hearts Challenge Blog...

This week the card shape is square and I really enjoyed playing with this format. It has been quite awhile since I have created a card in a shape other than rectangle. I based my card around the stamp sets and cluster design I shared in my last blog post (you can find it by clicking -  here). I love how you can use the same stamp sets time and time again and by changing the colour palette come up with lots of different variations.

I basically followed the sketch design cutting 1/4" strips of paper to create the striped look depicted in the sketch. The pink and mint coloured papers were taken from the paper/pages in the
My Crush Everyday Life Pages. I especially love using these as a paper source and use them regularly to compliment my other paper packs. The sentiment comes from the Friend in Me stamp set and the background splatter was created with the Ink Blot stamp set  - using the 2nd generation stamping technique in  Black and Cotton Candy Ink. The flower and leave images...found in the Springtime Wishes and  Friend in Me stamp sets... were stamped in black ink on a combination of papers from the My Crush Everyday Life Pages, Regatta and Penelope Paper Packs. Although, some of the flowers and leaves were cut from the printed designs found on the My Crush Everyday Life Pages. They were then fussy cut and arranged in a cluster with some Foam Tape behind the larger flower to add some dimension. A paper bow from the Gold Fundamentals Assortment added just the right finishing touch.

Now, is the perfect time to add these 3 stamp sets to your collection. During the month of March...(and yes, we only have a few days left!) - when you purchase two stamp sets you get a third set for free - that is a saving of $21 on the 3 stamp sets used in this card design and exceptional value for money especially knowing you can use them over and over again. Stamp of the Month - Sunshine Birdies

I have been looking forward to sharing this month's Stamp of the Month with you...it is very sweet and perfect for those who love colouring, but what makes it even more special is the fact that it co-ordinates beautifully with so many other stamp sets in the Close To My Heart range.

I decided to combine it with the floral images from the Friend in Me stamp set, along with a little embossing and some colouring with Watercolour Pencils in pretty pastel tones.

I used Pixie and White Daisy Cardstock along with the Damask Embossing Folder to create the card background. A circle was then cut from the centre and a sentiment and bird image from the Sunshine Birdies was stamped inside. The flowers and leaves from the Friend in Me set were stamped individually, coloured with Watercolour Pencils then fussy cut and arranged around the cute bird image. The card was embellished with Pixie Extra Thick Twine, Purple Enamel Hearts and some little black glitter stickers from the Black Fundamental Assortment were placed in the centre of the large flowers ( which are a little difficult to see in the photo ).

If you love mix and matching your stamp sets too?... then the wait is over! Today is the beginning of  Stampaganza 2016 - yes this month you can buy any two

A Creative Distraction

Two blog posts in less than a day is a bit of a first for me LOL!! It seems when the crafting mojo is in full force other priorities take a back seat!

Last night I finished off another floral card using the December Stamp of the Month. I am a bit addicted to this design and painting with Watercolours at the moment. This is the third card in the series and this time Canary Yellow was the feature colour along with a few slight variations. I used  different paper patterns from the La Vie En Rose Paper Pack, some Kraft Cardstock, Black Fundamental Assortment ( for flower centres ) and Kraft diecut shapes found in the La Vie En Rose & Zoe complement packs.

I also used a different sentiment from the Candlelight Garden stamp set - if you missed out on seeing the other cards?... you will find them by clicking here.

One of my tasks today was to tidy my craft room. My desk was buried under lots of pretty papers, embellishments and a barrage of tools. I started with really good intentions and as I was "slowly"  putting everything back where it belonged - I got distracted by all these goodies. This distraction resulted in another little card using the December Stamp of the Month!

If you are a regular visitor to my blog you will notice the design and papers used, are similar to cards I shared last week ( you can view them here ).

This time I used the candle image from the Candlelight Garden stamp set and placed it inside the mason jar image using the paper piecing technique. The candle was stamped onto the yellow paper from the Kaleidoscope Paper Packet and the flame section coloured with the ShinHan™ Touch Twin™ Golden Yellow Marker,  the lid of the jar was stamped onto Slate Cardstock. The fern coloured leaves were left-over pieces from one of the layouts I created for my Convention presentation...and if you missed that post you can see that too by clicking here. The other piece of green is a small piece cut from a White Pines Picture My Life™ card. The large heart and label embellishment can be found in the La Vie En Rose Complements and the scallop circle is from the Whimsy Fundamental Sticker Pack ,with a heart shape in the centre also from the Black Fundamental Assortment.

I love how this card came together from all the little bits and pieces left-over from my previous creations and while I didn't get to clear away everything on my desk... the few pieces that would have been thrown out (with the rubbish) have creatively turned into a special card for a friend... and tomorrow, I really should finish the tidy up I started!!

I know those of you who follow my Facebook page have seen all the wonderful bonus offers Close To My Heart have recently released, but have you seen the gorgeous new Planner... that has made me giddy with excitement?? Stamp of the Month - Candlelight Garden

WOW! - can you believe it?... today is the 1st December and the last month of 2015!! I know that means many of you are crafting away getting the last of your Christmas cards and gifts made, but I thought today we might change the pace a bit and celebrate  friendships.

As I reflect on 2015 I know Close To My Heart and the friendships it brings has played a huge part in my year and for that, I am very grateful -  these "friendships mean everything"... and this leads into the card I want to share with you using the December Stamp of the Month - Candlelight Garden.

This stamp set includes a fabulous Mason Jar image. Mason Jars are so on trend at the moment and offer so many creative options. I stamped the image in black
Memento Ink onto some Watercolour Paper, then using Close To My Heart's Watercolour Paints  painted a translucent wash of blue paint to represent water in the bottom of the jar.

I then used a portion of the stems from the floral image found in the stamp set to attach some 3D flowers. These flower were made from a variety of different sizes of floral shapes, found in the Cricut® Artistry Collection. These were also coloured with a wash of pink Watercolour Paints. I love the texture and depth this created and how different it made the shapes look...if you click here your will see a card I previously created with these same shapes using a totally different technique. The lovely sparkly centres of the flowers are from the Bling Gems Gold Assortment . The leaves were cut from the Cricut® Art Philosophy Collection in Sweet Leaf Cardstock.

I used Black and Pixie cardstock as the base for the card design and complimented it with black & white patterns from the La Vie En Rose Paper Pack. The sentiment can also be found in the Candlelight Garden Stamp Set and the splattered areas were created with the Ink Blot Stamp Set. The gold foil heart is a sticker from the Fundamental Stickers Basics Pack and the card was embellished with white gems from the Grey Enamel Gems pack.

I've also made a blue version of this card design using Lagoon Cardstock and
Glacier Extra Thick Twine. The heart sticker can also be found in the Fundamental Stickers Basics Pack and the Thank You sentiment is from the Stamp of the Month stamp set.

When you spend $75 you can purchase this Stamp of the Month set for just $7.50 - that is a saving of over 70%...  when ordering from my Online Shop  you will be prompted to add this set before you finalise your order and check out - and don't forget to browse our CyberWeek Sale... for five days only, a selection of 39 items from Close To My Heart’s current product inventory can be yours for 25% off retail price! Convention 2015 - Make It From Your Heart Part 3

In my last post I promised to share a few more of the layouts that featured in my presentation at the Australasian Close To My Heart Convention.

I certainly don't scrapbook as much as I use to when my children were younger. I also don't to take my SLR camera with me everywhere (as I once did), I now tend capture those little moments of my life on my smart phone. The majority of the layouts I create today represent this... they comprise of a single photo and cluster decorating.

This layout is a quick snap shot of my daughter and niece. The page design was inspired by the colours in my niece's dress.

I used papers from the Whimsy Paper Fundamental range and Kaleidoscope Paper Pack. The floral cluster was created using the images from the Blossoming Expressions stamp set...stamped in the following colour inks Canary, Sorbet, Glacier and Lagoon. The white cardstock leaves were cut from the "new" Cricut® Artistry Collection and the cute little sentiment sticker verse & "best buds" chipboard embellishment can be found in the Kaleidoscope Complements Pack. A few Enamel & Glitter Duos Blue Dots and white enamel dots from the Grey Enamel Gems Pack were used to finish off the cluster arrangement.

This 2nd layout is one of my favourite photos taken when I was attending meetings in Utah serving on the Close To My Heart Product Strategy Committee. I loved sharing time with these like minded ladies, they are not only great work colleagues but they are an awesome group of life long friends.

This layout also uses a combination of different products from the Close To My Heart product range including Zoe, Kaleidoscope and Urban paper packs. The floral cluster arrangement for this layout uses stickers and chipboard from both the Kaleidoscope and Zoe Complement Packs. The "selfie" title was created using the white mini alphabet stickers from the Fundamental Stickers Basics Pack. The scallop border trim was cut from Pixie Cardstock using the Scallop Border Maker and trimmed with some of the Silver Foil Trim.

I can't "sing the praises" of the Close To My Heart product range enough, everything is so complimentary and it makes mixing and matching different papers, stickers and embellishments all in one layout so very easy indeed!!

All the products listed and highlighted here, can be found in my online shop - click here to create your order and have it sent directly to your doorstep!

Thank you for stopping by my blog. I would love to hear your comments on these single page layouts and I hope you are yourself enjoying a fun-filled crafty weekend.

Bold, Bright and Beautiful

The weather here over the past week has been wet, dark and gloomy so I have been cheering myself up by playing with an array of bright and beautiful papers in my craft room!

Have you ordered your Taste of Summer paper pack and stamp set yet? They are a limited edition and only available in May - don't miss out! - you can order them here in my online shop.

I created this sweet strawberry card using both the papers and the stamp set from the Taste of Summer range...

I teamed the lovely bright papers with the one of my favourite paper packs - the Paper Fundamentals Whimsy Assortment...I love the embossed texture of these papers. I topped my strawberries with leaf and flower shapes from the Cricut® Artiste Collection and I think this gave them a more realistic look ... and of course no strawberry patch is complete without a busy little bee. The bee image can be found in the Happy Everything stamp set... a portion of the proceeds of this set go direct to Operation Smile and can change the life of a child. Since 1982 Operation Smile has performed over 220,000 surgical procedures to correct facial deformities in children - life altering surgeries that give bright, beautiful futures to these children.

This card also uses one of the sentiments from the Happy Everything stamp set. It certainly is a "must-have" set for your crafting collection.

An Embossing Tool was used to give the floral embellishments some definition they were also Sanded, exposing the white core of the cardstock...  adding an element of texture to the overall card design... the embossed background was created with the Dot Embossing Folder.

Thank you for visiting my blog today - I hope your week is full of bright beautiful days!

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #105

It is time for another sketch over at the Atlantic Hearts Challenge Blog...

.. and today I can give testimony to how quick a card can come together when you use a sketch design. As I was "cleaning" my craft room  (getting a little distracted in the process) and organising & filing away paper scraps, pre-coloured images and die-cut shapes I came across a little collection of pieces that co-ordinated beautifully and I knew would be perfect for this sketch... amazing what you can do with scraps!!

I reversed the basic sketch design layering some small pieces of cardstock, some pink & purple paper (from a yet to be released paper pack!! - so stay tuned!) then cut a strip from a card found in the For Always - Picture My Life Program to form a border. I then added some faux stitching lines with a black Marvy® Uchida® LePen™ Journaling Pen.

The cluster of flowers was created with some small flower images from the Wavy Blooms Stamp Set - they were coloured using ShinHan Touch Twin Markers and a layering technique in colours of Cherry Pink, Tender Pink, Peony Purple and Lavender. The centres were embellished with Black Epoxy Bubbles. The flowers were then layered over a flourish and leaf shape left over from a previous project cut from the Cricut® Art Philosophy Collection.

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #103

It is time for another sketch over at the Atlantic Hearts Challenge Blog - this sketch is very classical in style but it is also extremely versatile... be sure to head over and see the design teams fun interpretations.

I chose to follow the main elements of the sketch and one of my favourite stamp sets of the moment!! - called Shower Flowers

I stamped the  3 large flower images in Canary Ink with black centres and then the outer edges of each flower was distressed with Honey Ink...  just to give the petals a little more definition. One of the images was also "popped up" with some 3D Foam Tape. The sentiment was cut from the label style washi tape found in the Boardwalk Washi Tape Pack and my ribbon element was created using the black twine from the Baker's Twine Neutral Metallic Assortment. Other black accents were added by way of pen(faux stitching)

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #101

It is time for another sketch over at the Atlantic Hearts Challenge Blog and I love the corner cluster and classic simplicity of this one.

...and being such a "pink flower addict" I knew instantly the colours and stamp sets I would choose for this card design.

The flowers were stamped in a combination of Pixie, Cotton Candy and Canary inks, they were all fussy cut and layered into the corner of the card design. To add a little more visual interest to the card I used some 3D Foam Tape to "pop-up" the Pixie coloured flower. The flower and leaf stamps are both featured in the newly released Shower Flower stamp set. It has an array of  lovely floral designs. The sentiment is from one of my favourite Hostess Rewards Stamp Sets - Better with a Friend - the best reason I know to host a Close To My Heart gathering with your crafty friends! I also love how you get multiple designs of cards in the  Picture My Life programs and I use these often as an extra paper source for my cards - the yellow printed paper I have mounted my sentiment onto is actually a re-sized card from the Hopscotch Picture My Life Scrapbooking Program. It complimented the colour palette of this card perfectly.

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #95

Today I am celebrating my 200th blog post ( yah me!!! ) and sharing a Birthday card created for a special friend... based on this week's  sketch over on the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge Blog...

This is the current sketch:

I chose to rotate the sketch and alter the position of the sentiment placement.

I have a real addiction for making paper flowers and the "star" of this card is certainly the 3D flower. It was created from shapes found on the Art Philosophy Cricut Collection. The floral shapes were cut from Crystal Blue and Glacier cardstock. They  were then distressed and definition & folds were added using an Embossing Tool and curved Tweezers. A Grey Epoxy Bubble was placed in the centre of the flower creation which was then adhered to the card design using Foam Tape to give it a little extra height.

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #93

Today I am sharing a card that was created for the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge Blog...

This is the current sketch:

It is a great sketch to follow for those of you who like clean classical designs. I created my card by focusing on the two basic design elements - the sentiment label and the image/floral icon.

I created the flowers using stamps from two of the new sets from Close To My Heart ...  A Bunch of Thanks  and the current Stamp of the Month - A Happy Hello. The floral images were then fussy cut and adhered to the card with 3D - Foam Tape. Next I folded the petals of each flower inwards, this gave the flowers more depth and dimension, making them a little more realistic in appearance... the centre of each flower was embellished with a nice sparkly Gold Bling Gem. The stems/leaves were cut from the Cricut Art Philosophy Collection as was the label embellishment. The sentiment I used can also be found in the A Bunch of Thanks stamp set - there are 17 individual images in this set... amazing value! The background was embossed with Diamond Embossing Folder which is one of 4 new folders found in the Seasonal Expressions - Idea Book/Catalogue.

Don't forget to pop on over to the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge and take a peek at all the inspiring ideas the Design Team as for you - play along with us and post your creations based on this sketch too... it is a lot of fun!

I'm a huge fan of the Stamp of the Month concept and the stamp sets on offer...  not only can you purchase them at a discount price but they are some of the most versatile sets you will find in the Close To My Heart range and this set is no exception.

As you travel through this blog hop you will certainly discover that this set is a "must have" for exactly that reason! To highlight this, I have created 2 cards one with a contemporary feel and the other a little on the shabby chic side.

For my first card I created a "splattered" background onto some White Daisy Cardstock with Cotton Candy , Sunset and Hollyhock inks and built the card design from there. The floral images from the stamp set were also stamped in this ink combination and then fussy cut with some slight alteration to the original image shape. The centre of each floral image was then embellished with Black Epoxy Bubbles. The geometric border was created using the Triangle Border Punch.

The Shabby Chic style card was created combining the Stamp of the Month - A Happy Hello with the Amour Stamp Set that can be found in the Seasonal Expressions idea book/catalogue. Using my beloved Deluxe Trimmer !!!...  I created a tag shape and used it as a base to build my stamped images onto. The leaves were all stamped in Juniper Ink and the floral shapes in Cotton Candy Ink and then cut with another of my all time favourite tools - Micro-Tip Scissors... and pieced together and adhered to the tag/card using Bonding Memories Glue Pen.

Thanks for visiting my blog and taking a "peek" at my card projects..... and if you haven't already been there?? -  now is the time to "Hop" on over to Angela White's  blog and see the art work she has created for you... don't forget to visit all the other Consultants at their blogs to view some great crafting inspiration and fun ideas! Gift Giving Ideas

If you are looking at creating personal and exclusive handmade gifts for your family and friends this Christmas??... be sure to check out Close To My Heart's "colour-ready" My Creations range in my online shop - there are some great goodies to choose from... mini albums, boxes, bags, and frames just to name a few. In my last post I shared one of the Hip Pics Mini Album with you and today I wanted to show a Pennant Frame that showcases one of my favourite photos of my youngest daughter.....a gift for her Grandma.

Decorating this frame was a quick afternoon project...my cricut machine cut out all the pieces and I just pieced it together! The frame, flowers and leaves were all cut from shapes found on the Art Philosophy Cartridge and the title and overlay (decorative edge around the photo) are featured on the Artbooking Cartridge. It was all adhered together using my favourite adhesive - Bonding Memories Glue. This all-purpose glue is perfect for safely bonding photographs, artwork, and more. It is acid free and creates both permanent and temporary bonds. I was really happy with my flower centres which came together when I applied Black Epoxy Bubbles on top of Gold Bling Gems - it really made the flowers pop and how great does the variegated paper from the Brushed Paper Pack look, made up as flowers??? - very effective! I love, love, love! this paper pack!!! I also have a pack to send to one lucky reader of my blog...to be in the draw, simply leave a comment below or add your name to my followers. I will randomly chose a winner and announce it here on Friday the 14th November.

Over the next few weeks I will be conducting Christmas Craft Classes full of "create & take" type projects such as this, along with decorative boxes for your Christmas baking treats and many more gift giving ideas. If you would like to attend one of these classes or schedule a gathering to create these projects, with your friends and family - please feel free to email me at lotfam@iinet.net.au I'd love to "show you how".

Thanks for stopping by today - don't forget to leave a comment and be sure to pop back on Friday and see what my crafty friends have been up to.
